MIL is dedicated to the discovery, promotion, valorization and internationalisation of current popular music and to a reflection on cultural policies and experiences. The project embraces the formats of music festival, convention, academy and magazine, anticipating new trends and encouraging debate on issues that determine the future of the music and culture sectors.
Founded in 2017, MIL has been growing in its formats. Initially a festival and convention, since 2018 MIL has developed one artist residency per year and since 2020 a magazine. As of 2023, the project contemplates not only an expansion of the training contents but also the implementation of three new training and cultural mediation activities: MIL academy, a decentralised training project that combines an artistic residency with the learning and development of a strategical business plan; Milímetro, a day of multidisciplinary programming that brings to children, adolescents and families in Lisbon the spirit of discovery and participation in the arts inspired by music; and a capacity building for internationalisation, an online training for artists and their teams aimed at empowering participants for achieving international status.
