Founded in 2006, L’Art Rue is a Tunisian non-profit organization that places artists and their creative work within a broader civic project and the democratic transmission process of Tunisia. Its mission is to innovate through arts, culture, education, and cross-sector collaboration to promote social change and create a more equal and open society. L'Art Rue wants to be a space and an engine of freedom and security for all those who are committed to the fragile but so essential grounds for a common future - art, education, and individual freedom.
Training and transmission lie at the heart of L'Art Rue's vision and initiatives, with a focus on empowering and educating Tunisia's future generation. Through its Art and Education program, the organization actively engages with schools, conducts workshops for young audiences, and implements various initiatives to raise awareness among youth. L’Art Rue provides support and encouragement to artists, offering artist residencies, establishing creation grants, and organizing and curating the Dream City biennial as a city-wide festival of creation.
Anchored in the medina of Tunis, L'Art Rue is open to reflection and collaboration at local, regional, and global levels. It strives to transmit its unique methodology, expertise, and accumulated knowledge in contextual artistic work and community engagement through diverse cooperation programs. This includes facilitating sub-granting mechanisms, providing mentorship, and offering guidance.
