Collab lab day 4: sunny day and funny night

07 February 2025

For the last day, things were a bit more relaxed. After lunch, we all gathered for the final collective workshop at L’Art Rue. This amazing week full of discoveries, deep talks, familiar and new faces is almost wrapped up. But not just yet—there’s still the grand finale: the last evening, when we all gather at Habibi Downtown, a spot to eat, drink, dance, and take in the stunning views of Tunis. What a way to end!

Last day. Work wrapped up, but we finally had more time to roam, to get lost, to let the city guide us—especially inside the Medina. You push through the souks, past merchants shouting, trying to hook you in. In some alleys, the crowd thickens, movement slows. At one point, we found ourselves in a full-blown pedestrian traffic jam—no cars, just bodies pressed together, inching forward between rows of sellers.

Beyond them, though, the Medina unfolds in quieter, softer ways. White walls, deep blue shutters and doors, streets stretched in the sun. Cats everywhere—sleeping, prowling, watching. A place that breathes in contrast: chaos and stillness, noise and silence.

Wandering through a hushed alley, a sharp, rhythmic sound grabs my attention. I turn a corner. A small workshop. An old man, hunched over his craft, hammering metal with measured precision. The clang echoes through the stone walls—loud, insistent, almost hypnotic.

It’s true: this place awakens the senses. Sound, scent, touch, sight—everything at once. Listen to Larie’s artwork Change and let it pull you into the heart of the Medina.

For the first time this week, we felt the heat. On the rooftop of L’Art Rue, under the open sky, we gathered for one last playful workshop: imagining the city of our dreams. A place ruled by flamingos? A city governed by children? A world without internet or technology? Everything was fair game.

When night fell, we met at Habibi downtown. Rooftop dinner, great vibe, music in the background. The band Don Pac and Benjemy—our Tunisian facilitator—performed. The night unfolded, easy and sweet. Some of us discovered flambéed Sambuca, a decision that was both brilliant and absurd.

Tomorrow, it’s goodbye. But tonight, it’s just about being here. About what these two years of the project have sparked: artistic collaborations and projects, professional opportunities, connections, and new friendships.

The Slash Transition team? The best. We met the kindest, most curious, most welcoming people. Huge love to the L’Art Rue crew for making us feel at home from day one.

Slash will meet again in Lisbon in 2026. New artists, new projects, but still this same incredible space to create, experiment, and rethink art and urban life.
