Collab Lab day 1 : Well arrived in Tunis

04 February 2025

The Tunis collaboration lab has just kicked off! After weeks of preparation, the crew of L’Art Rue just welcomed (almost) everyone in its local in the center of the medina. Some of us didn’t make it on time, they’ve had issues on their way to Tunis but we’re truly hoping they’ll get there as soon as possible to discover the artists’ work tomorrow! As we’re dropping off our luggage, we’re just re-reading the words we’ve received from the Nantes team and from the Tunis team before it starts.

Aslema!

Thursday, January 30, the artistic/discursive program is complete, FINALLY! We’re delighted to be able to welcome Collab lab participants and our enthusiastic public to join us. Our technical, communications, hospitality and coordination teams are working flat out to make this event a success : preparing the sound installations, finalizing the content of the round table and listening session, printing presentation texts, checking lunches and dinners etc… But despite all this pressure, we’re delighted to be able to welcome all your beautiful souls, it’s getting frustrating not to see you yet!

The days are counted, the stopwatch is running, we’re looking forward to seeing those we already know, and to meeting local artists and facilitators from other territories.

Collab Lab day 1 : Well arrived in Tunis

Sunday, February 2nd, I am currently on the train to Charles de Gaulle airport to take the plane to Tunis. I don’t feel very stressed for now and I’ve actually been feeling quite excited all weekend to see everyone from Slash again after all this time!

The drawback of this kind of long-term project such as Slash, is that it’s a lot of online call and visio so I know how these face-to-face moments are precious.

These last few days, I tried to prepare myself, not only regarding the week’s contents but also personally (it’s been a week that I’m wearing a mask, trying to avoid every flu and other germs that are flourishing in Nantes!) I also spent the weekend alone, trying to fill up my “social energy reserve”, preparing for a lot of conversations – in English – all day long for 5 days in a row. I know this week will be intense and I’m curious to discover how it unfolds 🙂

Collab Lab day 1 : Well arrived in Tunis

Monday, February 3rd, finally in the plane for Tunis with Clotilde. We are flying above Corsica right now and the steward just passed by with the coffee. We are SO excited!! Even though we don’t know what to expect exactly. But when Chloé (from Trempo) invited us to come and shoot the Collab lab we could not say no. Imagine: five days in Tunis, exploring its Medina – the oldest in the world (at least, that’s what we have been told), meeting 25 artists and cultural professionals from five different countries working in the cultural field, shooting what we see, doing interviews and also participating in workshops, artwork presentation and exhibition… to me it feels like a fancy summer camp for people who love the best things in life.

One downside: we left a really sunny Paris and the captain just announced cloudy rainy 13 degrees weather in Tunis… Clotilde is about to cry; she hasn’t seen the sun in ages.

You can follow us on the Slash transition instagram account where we’ll post one video every day to share with you this Collab lab experience! We’ll publish photos, audio records and texts here too. Hope we survive the flight, and see you very soon.

To be continued… Inchallah!
